Valle de La Puerta - La Rioja // Wine Map of South America>


 Valle de La Puerta

From the La Rioja province in the greater Cuyo Region in the northwestern area of Argentina. The vineyards are located in the Famatina Valley, near the town of Chilecito, 3,280 feet above sea level. The climate is semi-arid with large temperature swings between day and night. The soil is deep sandy-clay of alluvial origin. Drip irrigation from underground wells is used during bud break (Sep-Oct) & after the harvest.


 

La Puerta Malbec

Grapes: Malbec
Viniculture: Hand harvested, barrel aged – new wine is blended 50/50 with wine that has been aged 6 months in American & French oak
Alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Appearance: Dark ruby red in color
Nose: This wine shows ripe fruit characteristics of plum, blackberry & mulberry with hints of mocha & vanilla oak.
Palate: Silky smooth with juicy berry fruit balanced with soft round tannins on the elegant long finish.

La Puerta Alta Malbec

Grapes: Malbec
Viticulture: Hand harvested from the best selected fruit from dripe
irrigated vines which are hand pruned and canopy managed for
optimum flavor ripeness.
Viniculture: Vinified in separate tanks then blended with Reserva wines
aged in French and American oak barrels for 3 months.
Alcohol: 14% vol.
Appearance: Dark ruby red in color
Nose: Blackberry, currants with herb notes.
Palate: Ripe black cherries with hints of spice and velvety tannins.

La Puerta Alta Malbec-Bonarda

Grapes: Malbec & Bonarda
Viticulture: Hand harvested.
Viniculture: 3 months in French oak.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Appearance: Dark purple with ruby red hints
Nose: Summer plums and dark cherries plucked from the tree.
Palate: Macerated black cherries layered with cacao nibs, plum, blackberry & black raspberries coated with earth, tannins, sweet vanilla spice.

La Puerta Gran Reserva

Grapes: 60% Malbec, 23% Bonarda, 17% Syrah
Viniculture: Hand-harvested, barrel-aged 12 months in French & American oak
Alcohol: 14% vol.
Appearance: Intense black-red color with purple hues
Nose: Full red fruits with hints of smoke
Palate: Complex & well-structured with lengthy finish. Rounded tannins give a unique character with great balance and multi-layered acidity.
