    Casa Setaro terroir -- Mt. Vesuvius National Park


Casa Setaro

Casa Setaro is a winery located on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius, in Trecase. The vineyards are located just inside the Vesuvius National Park. Massimo Setaro takes care of all the production, from the vineyard to the cellar. He is sided by his wife Mariarosaria. For generations, the Setaro family has been dedicated to grape cultivation and wine production on the slopes of the Vesuvius.

Commune di Trecase, Bosco del Monaco and Tirone della Guardia areas, inside the Vesuvius National Park; volcanic soils, rich in potassium and microelements with 15 – 25 year old vines.


Casa Setaro Falanghina
Grapes: Falanghina 100%

Viticulture: Espalier with guyot training and few buds; manual harvest, grape selection before soft destemming press followed by low temperature skin fermentation in stainless steel tanks at  4°C for about 48-72 hours. Refining: sur lies for 3 months

Alcohol: 13% vol.

Appearance: Straw yellow

Nose: Scents of broom and quince mixed with mineral tones that make this a true Vesuvian Falanghina. 



Palate: Fruity with great pleasantness, enriched by an elegant, volcanic minerality. Long finish.

Pairing:  Seafood cuisine, shellfish, vegetable and pulses soup, legumes and fresh cheeses.

Casa Setaro Munazei Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Piedirosso DOC 
Grapes:  100% Piedirosso
Viticulture: espalier, guyot training Vesuvian pergola
Viniculture: Maturation: in stainless steel tanks 6 months, further refining in bottle 3 months
Alcohol:  13% vol.
Intense ruby red
Palate: Dark fruits- plums and black berries, under brush, fern, firestone, volcanic matter and minerals.  Full bodied, round, fresh, with present tannins.
Pairing:  Fish soups, white meats, roasted chicken, root vegetables.

Casa Setaro Terramatta Aglianico

Grapes:  100% Aglianico 
Viticulture: 12 months in stainless steel tanks, short time in oak barrels, refining in bottle for 3 months
Alcohol: 13% vol.
Appearance: Intense ruby red
Palate: Rich red raspberry, currants and cherries.  Jammy with an elegant minerality Hints of balsamic and licorice. Full bodied, excellent balance, long persistence.
Pairing:   Roasted meats, chicken, pomegranate, rich seafoods, squash, roasted vegetables.

Weingut Castelfeder -- Alto Adige

From the photo, you might think this wine region is in southern Germany or maybe Austria, but it's actually northern-most Italy in the area formerly known as Südtirol (a part of Austria until WWI), now known as Alto Adige. Bi-lingual and bi-cultural, it's Italy with a strong Austrian influence.
